Once again GSPK Design has offered students the opportunity to experience an industrial working environment. With 3 students working there for a week in mid June, two on a week work-placement and one will remain working with GSPK Design throughout the summer on a marketing internship.

One of the students from King James School, Knaresborough worked in the Mechanical Design and Engineering department working on 3D CAD Modelling program Solidworks which is used by GSPK Design to design and model the mechanical aspects of the products that they are designing. The Year 10 student commented on how school and his week in industry were vastly different and how trust was such an important factor between work colleagues. The company were delighted with his contributions over the week and hope he learned a lot to take away, but most of all GSPK Design are satisfied that he has had a great opportunity to experience what it would be like to have a career involved within a team of engineering experts. Under the guidance of Tim Chamberlain, he got the opportunity to work with a variety of different software and got to work closely with the manufacturing team.

The other placement student, a Year 12 from Ashville College worked on the Electronic Design side with Jim Needham. Jim was able to guide him through the company’s software that they use to design circuit boards, with the student arriving on Monday with no or very little knowledge and by the Thursday was already working independently on his own simple Printed Circuit Board design for a LED controller. He described his experience as unique, saying to be involved in a working environment was something he thoroughly enjoyed and to be able to experience programs within a professional electronics design company was fantastic.

Finally, Lewis Chadderton, currently at the University of Leeds studying Graphics and Communication Design, has been given the opportunity to work in the marketing team for 12 weeks. After going through an interview process, Lewis was offered the chance to gain invaluable experience in marketing a business. Working with the Managing Director Paul Marsh, Lewis is contributing towards GSPK Designs website content and social media, while looking at data cleansing and getting to grips with the basics of marketing a specialist design service. Lewis said that the regular one to one interaction with senior members of GSPK Design was tremendous and all the staff within GSPK Design where extremely friendly and approachable.
