Gas controller with specific application for LPG

Electronic design, product development and logistical management

The Problem:

Our client was working on a project to identify the best way to mix the correct ratio of LPG diesel to maximise the flow of LPG without detriment to the engine performance. They faced numerous problems including; how to control the valve and how to find out how much gas needed adding under different operating conditions.

The Solution

GSPK Design engineers designed an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) which monitors engine parameters including; engine speed, turbo boost pressure, engine temperature, safety systems (including over pressure cut-outs) and engine knock detection and then calculates the optimum gas flow using Digital Signal Processor technology (DSP) and 3D mapping.

Furthermore, GSPK Design engineers developed a suite of software to assist the installation process to optimise the gas flow. This incorporates a GPS interface to accurately track the vehicle speed and location on test runs.

The Result

GSPK Design have provided a complete system including an ECU, wiring harnesses and control valves which has been successfully retrofitted to a wide range of commercial vehicles.

David Abbott, Managing Director said - "The GSPK Design team is small and friendly, flexible and approachable and very keen to help.  The company cover a wide range of competences from hardware design through to software development and can provide small scale production, all from under one roof.  Jim Needham is extremely competent and has delivered top quality hardware and firmware.  I am extremely pleased with the products they have developed for me.  GSPK Design has added a lot of value during the specification process and as a result, has delivered exactly what I need to launch this product successfully."
