The Problem:
This specific problem was directly associated with filter systems within the industrial air compressor market. The company involved were experiencing problems with their end users not servicing or changing the filters for these systems on a regular basis. As a result, the filters were getting blocked and consequently rupturing which filled the air system with paper and debris from the filter which had built up over time.
Our customer faced a difficult predicament in that they were relying on the end user to initiate a change of filter and this was ultimately outside of their control.
The following is a result of GSPK Design Ltd being asked to design a system alert to assist with this problem.
The Solution:
It was decided to design a pressure sensor which would measure the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the filter system. This would then be able to detect when the filter was becoming blocked and alert the user that the filter needing changing.
The Result:
An alert system designed and manufactured by GSPK Design Ltd and supplied to the customer for installation into their industrial air compressors.
The team were able to, using the guidelines provided, design a system that would help to improve both company reputation and brand image due to:
- A reduction in the number of blocked filters
- A reduction in time wasted solving the problem created
- A decline in the number of complaints received from valued customers
The outcome – our customer was able to counter any negative publicity it was receiving due to the electronic re-design initiative taken to solve this problem and, as a result, have managed to increase their sales of filters due to the system alert advising end users when a filter change is required..
